Après Paris, Berlin et Rome, Olivier Benoit clôture son projet Europa en mettant le cap avec ses musiciennes et musiciens sur le Nord, direction Oslo. Une ville atypique, nichée au cœur d’une nature triomphante, qui poursuit sans cesse sa transformation architecturale et culturelle, entre tradition et modernité.
L’exploration de cette quatrième capitale a fait naître chez le directeur artistique le désir d’y associer des mots, une parole. Une évocation à deux voix qu’il a imaginée avec l’écrivain et poète contemporain osloïte Hans Petter Blad. Cet auteur singulier a extrait de son œuvre une série de poèmes réalistes, en écho à la musique composée. Des textes, que l’auteur a lui-même traduits du norvégien à l’anglais, incarnés par Maria Laura Baccarini, chanteuse autant que comédienne aux multiples facettes.
En une suite orchestrale dont les pièces offrent une dynamique très large, alternant moments intimistes et mélancoliques — à l’image d’une confession —, atmosphères hypnotiques et crescendos puissants, Europa Oslo nous plonge avec une rare intensité au cœur de la ville, de la chair de ses habitants, entre blessures, errances et renaissance.
L’univers panoramique d’Olivier Benoit, puisant toujours aux multiples sources du jazz, de la musique répétitive et du rock progressif, offre un écrin sur mesure à la plume élégiaque d’Hans Petter Blad, pour un hommage sensible à Oslo, nourri par la force d’expression de chacun des musiciennes et musiciens de l’orchestre, et de Maria Laura Baccarini, interprète habitée. Following on from Paris, Berlin and Rome, Olivier Benoit closes his Europa project by heading north with his musicians to Oslo. An atypical city, nestled in the heart of triumphant nature, which is constantly undergoing architectural and cultural transformation, blending tradition and modernity.
Exploring this fourth capital sparked Olivier Benoit’s desire to associate it with words. He imagined a two-voice evocation with contemporary Oslo writer and poet Hans Petter Blad. This singular author has extracted from his work a series of realistic poems, echoing the music composed by the artistic director. The texts, which the author himself translated from Norwegian into English, are performed by Maria Laura Baccarini, a multi-faceted artist, singer and actress.
In an orchestral suite whose pieces offer a wide-ranging dynamic, alternating intimate and melancholy moments – like a confession – with hypnotic atmospheres and powerful crescendos, Europa Oslo plunges us with rare intensity into the heart of the city and the flesh of its inhabitants, between wounds, wanderings and rebirth.
Olivier Benoit’s panoramic universe, always drawing on the multiple sources of jazz, repetitive music and progressive rock, offers a tailor-made setting for Hans Petter Blad’s elegiac pen, for a sensitive homage to Oslo, nourished by the expressive power of each of the orchestra’s musicians and Maria Laura Baccarini, an inhabited performer.
